Introduction – my place in the blogosphere
Posted by Andy on June 1, 2008
Goooooooood morning, blogosphere (adjusted Robin Williams quote from Good Morning, Vietnam)!
I have created this blog with the following possibilities in mind:
- This could be a way of keeping my close family and friends abreast of what’s going on in my life.
- Perhaps my co-workers, business associates, and fellow volunteer workers would be interested in feedback I have regarding industry-relevant issues.
- I enjoy hearing myself talk (and watching myself type), and maybe there are other people out there who enjoy hearing me talk and watching me type as well. Actually….I hope no one likes watching me type (stalker-ish behavior!) and is merely content to look at my words on their own computer screen.
- I like looking at old pictures and listening to certain songs that remind me of a particular time period in my life. Using this blog would be a more direct way of documenting my life and the happenings during the time periods that it covers.
I don’t expect this blog to have a particular focus…..yet. I have many interests and talents and more than one passion. Focusing in on only one thing could be helpful for this blog’s organization and marketability. It could also help me carve a path as an advocate/critic/expert in a particular field.
However, it just isn’t going to happen right now. I have tried creating blogs with a focus on a central theme in the past. I eventually lost interest largely due to the fact that my focus was too narrow (as focuses tend to get). Why only write about music when I can also chime in on sports and politics?
My central focus on this blog is going to be….none other than…..ME! My entries will reflect what I’m interested in, what’s going on in my life, current events, and whatever I feel inclined to speak about on that particular day. There will be rantings and ravings, discussion-provoking questions, deep thoughts, shallow thoughts, and all thoughts in between. The information disseminated to my casual readers and feed-subscribers will be relevant to some, irrelevant to others, and irreverent to the combined “some” and “others” groups (which equals “everybody” for all of you math whizzes).
I will be conducting an experiment of sorts. Can I really benefit from having a blog? Will it open up opportunities professionally and personally? Will it help me open up so people know what’s on my mind as opposed to minding my own business like I usually do? Will it help those that want to know keep tabs on me? Will I eventually tire of putting myself out there and go back into full privacy mode?
Whatever this blog may accomplish, I know one thing is for certain: it will satisfy my craving to write. I have much to say and share with the world, so I am going to do it. Because I can. And because Blogspot is free and will have no effect on my monthly budget.
Stay tuned for more entries, and feel free to give feedback and leave comments whenever the mood strikes you.
Best regards,
Andy

Will be interested in seeing how this develops and whether you find it accomplishes what you hope – something like keeping a journal in the old days, but this is one that you can share with whoever’s interested -
