The GOP presidential campaign – insert candidate here

Posted by Andy on August 3, 2008

Dear readers who are outraged at the behavior that the McCain campaign has displayed,

I’ve come to a realization that has diminished my hatred for John McCain. I still don’t have much respect for him and maintain that he’s a complete moron, but I don’t have so much hostility towards him anymore. The brunt of my aggression is now geared towards the GOP as a whole.

The way the McCain campaign is being run right now is the same way that it would be run if Mitt Romney had won the nomination. Ditto for Mike Huckabee, Rudy Giuliani, and just about anyone else for that matter. The kinds of awful attacks that are coming from the campaign would be there regardless of who was sitting in the nominee’s seat.

I agree with the idea that this isn’t the McCain we’ve come to know. There’s always the possibility that he was always like this and managed to disguise it in a “maverick” costume, but I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt and say that he’s been sincere with his past positions. The man has completely done a 180 on most of (if not all of) his positions, and the integrity he once maintained is now completely gone.

Republican leadership (the Bush administration and company) has screwed up this country so bad that the only way they can retain power is by going their current route. They won’t win on the issues, so they have to hope that the uninformed, ignorant voter base will carry them to the White House.

This critical election season, which really does give us an opportunity to change the course of our country, is turning into a farce. I’m going to tune out all mainstream media coverage (except for Countdown with Keith Olbermann since I find him to be hilarious) and will relegate my sources of information to independent news outlets and the Obama campaign. The GOP campaign (insert candidate here) has not given me anything that is worthy of my attention.

Well, maybe I’ll still maintain some sense of vigilance in fighting the smears should they have any substantial impact on the election outcome.

Best regards,
Andy

    Very disheartening, isn’t it?
